RHINESTONES An imitation gem stone with a high lustre made of glass, paste, or quartz. Rhinestones are used to decorate both casual handbags and evening bags, and can be attached to all sorts of materials from fine fabrics to textured leathers. Often, rhinestones are used to enhance ornamental beadwork and metal clasps on evening bags.
RIVET A metal pin with a head on one end and inserted through pieces of material to be joined together and then hammered on the other end to form a head on the other side. Rivets are often used on handbags to reinforce the looped ends of a shoulder strap or carrying handle where it attaches to the main body of the bag, or at corners where several pieces of leather or other material come together such as at the top corner of a compartment divider where it attaches to an exterior panel.
